SB 1097 Dead for the Year
SB 1097 Dead for the Year
8/23/22
Thanks to the leadership of CCIA’s opposition efforts, SB 1097 (Pan) has been placed on the inactive file and is dead for this year! While we appreciated the bill’s intent to increase public safety, SB 1097 would have done nothing to deter illicit use of cannabis, but instead would have imposed new costs and burdens on the regulated industry thereby driving more consumers to the illicit market.
CCIA worked tirelessly to oppose this bill by meeting with legislators, helping organize letters of opposition, and writing up proposed amendments which would have significantly reduced the scope of the bill. We are happy to see that our hard work paid off!

"It is important to acknowledge this moment as a victory for the legal cannabis industry, and as an example of what CCIA can accomplish with the support of its members and in coalition with other trade organizations."As it is likely the sponsors will run the bill again next year, CCIA will work diligently this Fall to make sure we are prepared with a strong legislative strategy to help drive sensible regulations for our struggling industry. DCC oversight is crucial to make sure current regulations are enforced. Public health research and consumer education should take advantage of the programs already in progress and funded by cannabis tax revenues from the licensed market, rather than create new and burdensome regulations.
